Intercultural Youth Scotland (IYS) is Scotland’s leading national youth charity for Black and People of Colour (BPoC) children and young people. We exist to create safe, supportive and inspiring spaces where young people can thrive, lead change, and challenge the structural inequalities they face.

IYS delivers a range of high-impact services, including mental health support, youth work, education, employability and anti-racist policy advocacy. Our work is rooted in community, driven by lived experience, and designed to amplify the voices and rights of marginalised young people.

We are now looking for a values-led Executive Director to lead the organisation through the next phase of its journey. This is a key leadership role, responsible for providing strategic direction, supporting staff and programmes, building external partnerships, and ensuring IYS remains financially sustainable and mission-focused.

As Executive Director, you’ll guide the organisation’s strategic growth, represent IYS across sectors, and ensure we continue to deliver meaningful impact for the communities we serve.

You should be able to demonstrate:

Significant leadership experience in a charity, youth, education, or mission-driven setting

A strong track record in fundraising and building external partnerships

Experience developing services or programmes that support underrepresented or marginalised young people

Deep understanding of anti-racism and its application in Scotland

Strong governance, finance and strategic planning experience

An empowering leadership style, with a focus on collaboration and accountability

Excellent communication and influencing skills

A firm commitment to equity, inclusion and the wellbeing of BPoC children and young people

 

What we offer:

A full-time working week of 32 hours across 4 days

29 days’ paid leave per year (inclusive of public holidays)

Hybrid working – with office base at Palmerston Place, Edinburgh

Intercultural Youth Scotland (IYS), a leading voice for Black and People of Colour (BPoC) young people in Scotland, is looking for a passionate and experienced Mental Health Service Manager to lead our intercultural counselling and mental health support programme for BPoC youth aged 12–29.

Our Mental Health Service offers free, specialist intercultural counselling and mental health support for young PoC and minority ethnic groups in Scotland, aged 12-29.

Within this role, you’ll oversee service delivery, manage a small team of service providers, build relationships with schools and stakeholders, and ensure the programme continues to deliver measurable impact.

This is an exciting opportunity to take forward a recently restructured service and shape it to become a leading provider of intercultural mental health support for young people in Scotland.


We’re looking for someone with a strong track record in mental health services and a deep understanding of the needs of young people of colour in Scotland.

 

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mental health service delivery, management, or programme management

  • Strong project and people management skills

  • Strategic thinking and a growth mindset

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • A strong understanding of youth mental health support systems in Scotland and the UK

  • Experience in monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and budget management

  • Commitment to anti-racism, inclusion, and youth empowerment

A clinical qualification (BACP/UKCP), and experience scaling health or wellbeing services would be advantageous but not required.
